Gilles Deleuze- Francis Bacon The Logic of Sensation
Gilles Deleuze's article about forces and their strong presence in Francis Bacon's paintings was a hard article to read. As a painter "forces, such as pressure, inertia, weight, attraction, gravitation, and germination" are things that one paints without sitting and contemplating them. It is something that happens and artists normally acknowledge after the painting is completed. It may be what we unknowingly strive for but it is not what consumes us while we work. However, Deleuze writes about forces from a philosophical viewpoint rather than that of an artist. I personally believe that if an aritst was to sit and worry about these forces and their pressure of tension with in their work that they would go crazy. It makes painting more like a math or science experiment than a work of art. Is there tension with in a piece of art? Is there a presence or a point behind most works of art? Yes, but whether or not these forces are deformative or transformative isn't the point behind the art. It's just an observation of talent that can portray them.

Great post- thankfully we are not all thinking about these things when working in the studio- or at least to such an analytical degree.
